What fitness goal are you working towards at MATRIX Personalized Fitness?

My main goal is to maintain good physical health as I get older. I want to continue to be independent, active, and free of injuries (especially avoiding muscle pulls when exercising or doing strenuous activities). I’ve been learning how to reduce and control pain from what is possibly a pinched nerve in my neck.  I’ve learned that there are movements that cause me pain and others that help reduce or take it away.

What, in general, does your program at MATRIX PF entail?

My basic program includes strength training of all body areas. I work on eye exercises to improve my balance.  I do squats, lunges, and footwork for agility. I also perform a variety of upper body activities on the TRX such as chest presses, rows, and chest flies. I am stronger now than I was when I was 25.

What 'homework,' if any, are you assigned?

I often get homework to continue what I have done during my workout session. It could be related to breathing exercises, stretching, squats, or walking.

What changes have you noticed since starting at MATRIX PF?

I have noticed many changes in my strength, self-image and confidence. I now recognize that fear is what holds me back from facing some new challenges.  Sometimes the fear still sneaks in but I have more confidence to at least try. My biggest improvement has been in my balance. Having decreased inner ear balance function, I would often get a little light-headed and was prone to dizziness. Working with Shane has helped to teach my brain/body to react properly to any movements that might cause me to lose balance.

What would you say to someone else who may be considering signing up at MATRIX PF?

In signing up at MATRIX PF you can experience a specific program set just for you and your needs and abilities.

What activities can you do now that you couldn’t do before you started at MATRIX PF?

I am better at activities that require me to carry heavy things. I can do squats, pushups, walking lunges, and double jump rope. Now, not only can I do these activities, but I have learned how to do them properly.

What about your workouts at MATRIX PF do you enjoy most?

I like MATRIX PF because it is always an interesting, educational, and challenging experience. Learning the proper techniques helps me to perform exercises and movements without injuring myself. Another very important thing is that I like my trainer, and I know he is always intent on helping ME.
